About me, my market, and what I love most about my work.
For over 13 years now, I have been working as an entertainment journalist/film critic for Irving Television (ICTN) and thischixflix.com. I am a Tomatometer-Approved critic and contribute to various online outlets, and as of this year, have become a film contributor for Good Morning Texas (a big dream come true). What I love most about my work is getting to turn my passion into a career. I have been swept away by film since I was a kid. Movies can be such an amazing escape. I cherish so many cinematic experiences and appreciate the power of film. I love reviewing movies, and I especially enjoy speaking with actors and filmmakers about their projects.

This is my passion project, or passion in general.
I don’t have a “project” specifically, but what I think means the most to me is being a critic that I hope underrepresented women—or even men—can identify with. As an Iranian-American, I rarely saw anyone like me on TV or film while growing up. It was only until recently that I realized how that impacted me. But I know that diversity in the media has gotten better in the past few years. I love being able to do junkets where this kind of topic is brought up and the importance of representation (in ALL aspects) is mentioned. I think my interviews for Never Have I Ever and Bros are great examples of this.

What it means to me to be part of CCA.
I have been a member of CCA for over four years now.  It makes me feel more legitimate as a critic, but also proud to be part of a wonderful association that’s inclusive and continues to do incredible work. Since joining, I have become part of the documentary and TV branches of the association. I am also a member of the CCA Women’s Committee and part of the nominating committee for our Super Awards.

My favorite Film/TV series that inspires/empowers me as a woman & why.
I would have to say Parks and Recreation. Leslie Knope is kooky and hilarious, but she’s also an inspiring character. They could have easily made her character a complete joke, but instead, she is respected by her peers because she’s almost like Wonder Woman. She does incredible work for the Parks department, and is passionate, smart, and strives to get into a career that has been dominated by men. But not only is she a hard worker, she’s also an amazing friend. She goes above and beyond with acts of service and gifts for other characters in the show and proves to be extremely thoughtful. It’s hard not to want to be like a Leslie Knope.

My favorite Film/TV series that I am currently watching and why.
Currently, my favorite show I am watching is Never Have I Ever. I am so sad this will be their final season, but happy they will go out on a high note. As I mentioned before, I rarely saw anyone like me on television or film. And though I am not Indian, this does feel like the closest version of me on screen. I can relate so much to Devi and the way she thinks in high school–especially about boys. Her family dynamics are relatable too. I also think Mindy Kaling’s voice has always spoken to me. I wish this show was on the air when I was a teen. I think it could have changed my self-confidence in a lot of ways. Besides that, it’s a hilarious and clever comedy with a heartfelt storyline that gets me to cry every season.
