Winners of Awards Honoring Nonfiction and Reality Content to be Revealed at Gala Ceremony Taking Place June 15 at the Fairmont Century Plaza
(May 13, 2024) – LOS ANGELES – The Critics Choice Association (CCA) today revealed the nominees for the sixth annual Critics Choice Real TV Awards, which recognize excellence in nonfiction, unscripted and reality programming across broadcast, cable and streaming platforms. After last year’s Strikes and the COVID precautions the year before, the Critics Choice Association is thrilled to once again welcome guests to celebrate these wonderful shows and nominees live and in-person at the Fairmont Century Plaza.
“RuPaul’s Drag Race” and “The Traitors” lead this year’s nominations, earning five nods each. They were both recognized for Best Competition Series, Best Ensemble Cast in an Unscripted Series, Best Show Host and Male Star of the Year. “RuPaul’s Drag Race” also received a nomination for Best Lifestyle Show: Fashion/Beauty, while “The Traitors” received a nod for Female Star of the Year.
“The historic strikes by the WGA and SAG/AFTRA necessitated a record amount of unscripted programming in all areas of television, from broadcast to cable to streaming, making the last 12 months a remarkable time for reality TV,” noted Critics Choice Association TV Branch Vice President Ed Martin. “The depth and diversity of our nominees for the sixth annual Real TV Awards reflects the importance and ever-increasing scope of the genre, which continues to offer something for everyone.”
The Critics Choice Real TV Awards were launched in 2019 as a large-scale awards platform to give the robust unscripted genre critical attention and support. The awards celebrate programming across platforms, and also recognize industry leaders with special awards highlighting career achievements.
Blue-ribbon nominating committees made up of Critics Choice Association members with expertise in nonfiction, unscripted and reality programming, determine the nominees. Winners will be chosen by a vote of the CCA membership, who will receive ballots via email on May 20. Fan voting for Male and Female Star of the Year, Best Ensemble Cast and Best Show Host will also begin on May 20 at criticschoice.com.
