About me, my market, and what I love most about my work.

She graduated with a Master’s Degree in Film from Regent University and a Bachelor of Science in Broadcast Journalism at Norfolk State. She’s covered some of the greatest entertainers, from cultural tastemaker Ta-Nehisi Coates to billionaire media mogul Oprah Winfrey. Outside of BGN, Jamie has written for Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, The New York Post, The Huffington Post, Vox, Vulture, IGN, Essence Magazine, The Lily (The Washington Post) and SYFY.
She is the executive producer and host of the Black Girl Nerds podcast, also known as the BGN Podcast. She is known best from her social media Twitter presence on @blackgirlnerds. Shonda Rhimes in Marie Claire Magazine cited Jamie’s @blackgirlnerds handle as being one of her favorite Twitter accounts.
I love having my own business! I never thought I would be writing about movies and entertainment for a living and I’m proud to also extend opportunities to new writers and editors to freelance and work for my publication. It’s been a journey that’s certainly had its dose of hills and valleys, but at this stage I can honestly say I’m living the nerd dream!
This is my passion project, or passion in general.
I’m living my passion every day covering entertainment. I’m still shocked sometimes that this is actually my career.
What it means to me to be part of the CCA.
I love being a part of a prestigious organization with a respected history in the film and TV industries. I’m proud to have committed some of my time and ideas to the Women’s Committee and hope to be more involved with the CCA in the future.
My favorite film/TV series that I am currently watching and why.
The Last of Us which is now done with season 1 is my favorite TV show so far this year. I was so addicted to the show that I watched 10 hours of gameplay uploaded on YouTube because I was so fascinated by the story and lore behind the show.
